Solar Cities (International)
An ongoing program involving, at this time, European, U.S., Australian and Asian researchers seeking to develop planning models that would enable cities to meet CEEP’s standard of environmental sustainability and social equity of 3.3 tons CO2(t) releases per person per year (see “An Equity- and Sustainability-Based Policy Response to Global Climate Change” at hotlink to the pdf of the 1998 Energy Policy article). Organized as the International Solar Cities Initiative (ISCi), it progresses through dialogue among its participants and has only voluntary city ‘clients’ and funders. Research aims are realized through the self-directed activities of the participating researchers. CEEP is a founder of ISCi, which recently obtained ISES (International Solar Energy Society) sponsorship. The program will hold its first International Solar Cities Congress in Daegu, South Korea in November 2004.
